The US military has launched new strikes on Iran, aimed at curbing the threat to the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, a senior defence official told Euronews.
The strikes were carried out overnight, targeting key military installations across the country, the official said.
This latest development comes after US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that the ceasefire with Iran is 'over' following Washington's initial attacks on Iran's military facilities.
'We're going to hit them hard tonight,' Trump said, without specifying the target or extent of the strikes.
The US is seeking to deter Iran's ballistic missile capabilities, which pose a significant threat to the security of the region and global shipping lanes, according to Pentagon officials.
'The Iranian regime's aggressive actions are a threat to regional and global stability,' said a senior US official, who spoke to Euronews on condition of anonymity.
Iranian officials have vowed to retaliate against the new US strikes, but the nature and extent of their response remain unclear.
As tensions continue to escalate, international powers are monitoring the situation closely, with concern growing over the potential for further military action in the region.
