Ukrainian capital Kyiv was hit by a barrage of Russian ballistic missiles and drones overnight, resulting in two deaths and multiple injuries. The Ukrainian military has so far reported that forces were able to intercept at least two cruise missiles and 111 drones as part of a wave of strikes. Despite this, the attacks still caused significant damage and disrupted daily life in the city. Eyewitnesses reported hearing loud explosions and seeing plumes of smoke rising into the air. Those caught in the strikes were rushed to hospital.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed to "respond with force" to the attacks. Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko called the strikes "unacceptable" and urged residents to remain vigilant. Russia's military had been warning of plans to target Ukraine's 'strategic infrastructure' for several days before the attack. The strikes come at a sensitive time, just as Ukraine is preparing to launch a new counteroffensive. It is unclear if Western allies will ramp up support for Ukraine. The conflict has dragged on for over a year, with both sides suffering heavy losses.
