Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible for committing crimes against humanity in the town of el-Fasher, a new report by Amnesty International has found.

The report, which was released on Tuesday, details the widespread and systematic abuses perpetrated by the RSF against civilians in el-Fasher, including forced disappearances, torture, and extrajudicial killings.

According to the report, the abuses were committed during a military operation by the RSF in May 2024, which has been described by the UN as bearing the hallmarks of genocide.

Amnesty International's report states that the RSF forces committed atrocities, including the burning of homes and the destruction of civilian property.

‘The scale of the human rights abuses committed by the RSF in el-Fasher is staggering,’ said Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnesty International. ‘The international community cannot ignore the evidence of these atrocities – we need immediate action to ensure accountability and justice for the victims.’

The UN says that over 200,000 people have been displaced in Sudan due to ongoing fighting between the government and rival militias.

The report is the latest in a series of allegations against the RSF, which has been accused of carrying out mass arrests and human rights abuses in cities across Sudan.
