A cargo ship reported being attacked in the Red Sea on Thursday night, a maritime agency said, warning vessels to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency told Euronews on Sunday that a cargo ship came under attack while transiting through the Red Sea.
The agency did not provide further details on the incident, including the identity of the attackers or the level of damage caused.
Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO, the agency said in a statement.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of shipping in the region and has prompted the maritime agency to issue a warning to ships operating in the area.
On Tuesday, the UKMTO had already issued a warning to ships to avoid the area near Berbera, Somalia, following reports of pirate activity in the region.
However, it is unclear whether the attacks are linked to piracy or another form of maritime crime.
The incident comes just days after a ship was reportedly hijacked off the coast of Nigeria.
