800+ Canadian Wildfires Rage On, US Air Quality Alerts Expand

A sprawling environmental disaster is unfolding in North America as over 800 wildfires continue to scorch Canada, pushing air quality alerts into the United States. By Wednesday evening, hazardous air quality conditions had been issued for significant swathes of Michigan, Minneapolis, and Minnesota. The crisis has prompted health warnings from Environment Canada, which cited the worst air quality in the world for Toronto, the country's largest city, due to smoke from more than 100 active wildfires in northern Ontario. On Thursday, July 16th, the situation remains dire, with 17 US states now under air quality alerts, including major cities like Detroit and Minneapolis, where poor air quality ranks among the worst globally.
